Southjamz Exclusive: Why YCEE and the remaining Artistes Left TINNY Entertainment

TINNY Entertainment was undoubtedly one of the leading Record Labels in Nigeria with a handful of talented acts signed under it.
The label is owned by Mr Timilehin Arokodare popularly known as Small TINNY, the label housed amazing entertainers such as YCEE, BELLA, Dapo Tuburna, Damilare and few others.

Last Week the front liner of the label YCEE made it publicly known, via a tweet, that he is no longer signed to the music label, in response to a fan who asked if he was still with the label. In truth, YCEE had terminated his contract with the label since September 2018, as well as, Bella, Dapo Tuburna and Damilare, who all terminated their contracts with the label, leaving TINNY Entertainment with no artiste to manage.

According to Azeez ‘Calypse’ Olalekan, who was the label’s PR (and held the record of the longest served member of staff) “I handled the label’s social media platforms, distribution and promotion of content; and trust me, in my almost two-year stay at the label, I lost count of how many staff members came and went. There was an instance where the label’s CEO returned from the UK and sacked ten of his staff members, leaving only the gate man and myself. One other time, a new staff member was employed on Monday and was sacked on Friday. Let’s say, Boss TINNY, as I always referred to him was a ruthless boss with high demand for excellence and little or no regard for his staff”
In further talks with the head of PR he further disclosed “It’s no surprise at all that all his artistes up and terminated their contracts with him at the same time.

The artistes’ anger with the label had started long ago and only intensified in January 2018 during the YCEE Juice Concert in London. YCEE and Bella had had issues with the label’s CEO while they were all in London; and as punishment, the management had abandoned the talents in the UK, leaving them with no means to take care of themselves or even return home. I will not go into the details of how the talents were able to survive their stay in the UK. The issue was later resolved but not too long afterwards, trouble brewed again in the camp when the label could no longer handle the management of her four artistes concurrently. Not a day went by without a complaint from one of the artistes demanding the status of their career and their brand direction. I remember this time when Dapo Tuburna, in indignation, sent an angry mail to the label’s CEO demanding to know the way forward as regarding his music career, while pointing out that the label was not holding up their own end of the contract; stating he funds his own distribution and promotion most of the time, despite having signed to a label as prominent as TINNY Entertainment. Damilare on the other hand, never stopped complaining about how the label did not have time for him and how the distribution and promotion of his releases were not properly funded by the label. He was signed in 2017 and had only two singles and a video to show for it. Established artistes often have a key-man clause in their contracts, which allows them to leave for another label if both parties, the label and the artiste, come to a mutual agreement to part ways. I think, that was the case with YCEE. For upcoming artistes, dropping out may be better than being stuck in a contract with a corporation that cares more about the bottom line than having the conviction to stick with artistes, even if they do not see immediate returns”.

Dear upcoming artistes, Obviously this big labels are not as rosy as we think and obviously before penning down a deal, be sure of your stand and value…

News: Leicester City owner’s helicopter crashes outside club’s King Power Stadium

A helicopter belonging to the owner of Leicester City has crashed in a ball of flames outside the club’s stadium.
According to Sky Sports News there was a loud mechanical sound before the aircraft spiralled then crashed to the ground in a huge fireball in the club’s staff car park which is about 200 yards from the stadium.

The helicopter had taken off from the pitch seconds before at about 8.30pm.

It is not clear whether the club’s Thai billionaire owner Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha was on-board his helicopter at the time, but he was at the game which had finished an hour and 15 minutes earlier.

Fans who were still leaving the stadium after Leicester City drew 1-1 with West Ham were seen running away as the helicopter came down and burst into flames.

The stadium was evacuated soon after the crash and the area around it was closed off. West Ham’s team bus had already left but some Leicester players were still inside the stadium.

A man, who wished to not be named, but has held a season ticket for more than four decades, reports he saw goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel running out of the stadium seconds after the crash before “loads of security guards and stewards”.

“I was stood outside the ground but it crashed on the other side,” he said.

“We pray everyone is okay.”

Review: Negative Comments Must Never Stop Proper Music Artiste — Pedro Milli [@itz_pedromilli]

Negative Comments Must Never Stop Proper Music Artiste — Pedro Milli

Pedro Millli is a fast-rising artiste who is set to take the music scene by storm. A few days ago, he spoke to ROTIMI IGE about his plans for a place among the stars, among other issues.

How did you start/recognize your talent?

Right from childhood, I had always loved music. I remember during my secondary school days, we would engage in rap/hip hop battles and I always performed exceptionally well. So, right from those days, I always knew that I would end up doing music. I needed no soothsayer to tell me that and all thanks to God, I started doing music professionally three years ago.

What influenced you to become a musician?

So many factors influenced me on becoming a musician, summing them all up, I would say life. Yes, life has influenced me a whole lot. From nature and her beauty down to my love life as well as all my experiences while growing up in the ghetto, I best express my innermost feelings via music.

What challenges have you faced over the years in your craft?

As an upcoming artiste/fast rising act still trying to carve a niche for myself, I’ve faced so many challenges. To be prominent in Nigeria’s music industry, you need to be very hard working and learn never to relent despite the backlash/negative comments you get from time to time. Financially it hasn’t been easy as well, but in all, I give thanks to God. I have a goal and I’ll do all it takes to accomplish it.

What kind of music do you do?

I do Hip Hop and Afro pop. But the genre of one of my most recent songs was of reggae fusion. The title of the song is ‘I need you’. It will drop for public download very soon.

Most say Lagos is the music capital of Africa. Do you think this is true?

It is very true. To be prominent in Nigerian music and Africa at large, you need to conquer the Lagos audience.

So, are you saying an artiste cannot do well outside Lagos?

Sure, an artiste can do well outside Lagos, but in terms of location, Lagos is the hub of entertainment. Your music can ‘blow’ in Benin but not blow in Nigeria or Africa; but any song that ‘blows’ in Lagos, has blown not just in Nigeria but the whole of Africa.

Rate the music industry at the moment…

I would say eight out of ten. We are rising rapidly and the world is taking note.

Tell us about your songs

My songs are very rich in lyrical content and rhythmic flows. Each of my songs has specific messages that it passes across. My latest single ‘Love me’ has been doing very well. In the clubs, it is a banger. The feeling I get as people and fans chant and vibe to my song is orgasmic.

What should fans expect from you this year?

A whole lot. I have the most amazing fans and I’ll never let them down. They give me the enthusiasm with which I put in more work and the best I can do for my fans is to bless their ears with euphoric sounds and good music.

Any regrets thus far?

No regrets. The love I have received so far is massive and it conquers any negative comment and backlash. From family to friends to the rest of my fans, it’s been love all through.

What would you have become if not an artiste?

An engineer.

Your typical day?

That has to be days in the studio recording songs.

I was born in the ancient city of Benin. I grew up on the streets. I come from a family of six and all my siblings are all boys.
